Storage & Beyond

Privacy Policy

Who we are and how to contact us

Storage & Beyond is a home, garage, and offsite storage inventory app developed by YOTTADESIGN, LLC ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what information the Storage & Beyond mobile app (iOS and Android) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.

You can reach us for any privacy question or request through the Yotta Design App Support form. Our mailing address is [MAILING_ADDRESS].

What data we collect

We only collect what's needed to run the app and provide support. All of it is stored in Google Firebase, in the us-central1 (United States) region.

Account data

  • Email address
  • Display name
  • An internal user ID
  • The household(s) you belong to

Content you add

  • Item names, descriptions, categories, quantities, and barcodes
  • Purchase dates and values, expiration dates, and warranty dates
  • Location names and hierarchy (e.g. house → garage → shelf → bin)
  • Item and location photos, stored in Firebase Cloud Storage under your household
  • Household name, owner, member list, and subscription status/expiry
  • Invite codes generated for household sharing (an invitee's email may optionally be attached to an invite)

Feedback

If you submit a bug report or feature request from within the app, we store the message text along with your user ID and household ID.

Purchase and subscription data

We store whether your household has an active Premium subscription and when it expires. This status is derived from App Store / Google Play purchase receipts. We never receive your payment card details — Apple and Google handle payment directly.

Camera

The app uses your device camera only to scan barcodes/QR codes and to take item photos. Camera frames are not stored except the specific photos you choose to attach to an item.

Device permissions

The app requests camera access (for scanning and photos) and local notification permission (for expiration reminders). We do not access your location/GPS, contacts, health data, or browsing history, and we do not use any analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs, or ad identifiers.

How we use it

  • To provide the service — storing and syncing your locations, items, and photos
  • To sync your inventory across every member of your household
  • To power AI features (photo identification and natural-language search) when you actively use them — see the next section
  • To respond to support requests and feedback you submit
  • To prevent fraud and abuse of the service
  • To comply with legal obligations

AI features and Google Gemini

Storage & Beyond's two Premium features — photo identification and natural-language inventory questions — are powered by Google's Gemini API. This only happens when you actively invoke one of these features:

  • Photo identification: when a Premium user takes a photo to identify an item, that photo is sent to the Gemini API, which returns a suggested name, category, and description.
  • Natural-language questions: when a Premium user asks a question like "where are the Christmas lights?", a subset of their item names, categories, descriptions, and location paths is sent to the Gemini API along with the question, so it can generate an answer.

Data sent to Gemini is governed by Google's API terms. It is not used by us for advertising, and we make no claims about Google's model-training practices beyond that it is governed by Google's API terms.

Who we share data with

  • Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions) — hosts all account and inventory data.
  • Google Gemini API — receives photos and inventory text only when you use a Premium AI feature, as described above.
  • Apple App Store and Google Play — process subscription payments.
  • Household members — anyone you invite into your household can see and edit all inventory in that household.
  • Other parties, only when required by law.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising purposes.

Data retention

We keep your data until you delete it in the app (items, locations, and photos can be deleted individually) or request account deletion (see our Delete Account page). Feedback submissions may be kept in anonymized form after account deletion.

Your choices and rights

  • Export: export all of your items and locations to CSV or PDF at any time from Settings → Export.
  • Correction: everything you've entered is editable in the app.
  • Deletion: see our Delete Account page for how to request deletion.
  • GDPR / CCPA rights: depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, or to object to certain uses of it. Use the App Support form to exercise any of these rights.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, and access to a household's inventory is restricted to that household's members. That said, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Storage & Beyond is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we've collected such information, we will delete it.

International transfers

All app data is stored in the United States (Google Firebase, us-central1 region), regardless of where you use the app from.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the updated version on this page with a new effective date.
